The Brahma & Cochin Club of Australia
The Brahma and Cochin Club of Australia was formed at the 2012 AGM of the Brahma Club of Australia in Queanbeyan, NSW. Members attending the AGM voted to amalgamate the Brahma Club of Australia and The Cochin Breeders Group of Australia, uniting the clubs under one name. We are currently in the process of developing a new club logo.
The Brahma Club of Australia was formed at a feature show held by The Belgian Bantam Club of Australia at Castle Hill Showgrounds in NSW, on Sunday the 2nd of July 2000.
Andrew Rathbone, a breeder of Belgian Bantams and Brahmas, organised the feature show. A total of 118 birds were benched including 35 Standard and 83 Bantam.
The Brahma Club of Australia was formed following the success of the feature show by those who exhibited. The club constitution is a one page document which keeps things simple and allows members to concentrate on breeding and showing.
Andrew Rathbone was the inaugural President, Bryan Jon the Vice President and Carol Abuid was the Secretary/Treasurer.
The club initially consisted of 10 members but now there are 60 members from all states in Australia including a number of junior members.
Since the clubs inception, interest in Brahma has increased significantly. Megg Miller (Club Patron) and Australasian Poultry Magazine have provided tremendous support. Our thanks go to Megg for her support of not only the Brahma but the Poultry Fancy as a whole in this country.
The Brahma Club of Australia formed the Cochin Breeders Group of Australia at the 2009 AGM in Yass.
Paul Rodgers a long time breeder of Cochin brought forward the proposal to create the Cochin Breeders Group of Australia at the AGM and was unanimously supported by all members in attendance.
At the inaugural show in 2009 a small number of Buff Cochins were benched by three breeders.
The club now has a section of the regular newsletter devoted to Cochin called 'Cochin's Corner' and our annual show provide classes for both breeds.
